Boice has been taking apart factory made jeans to unlock the secrets to efficient, easy construction and shortcuts. Do not miss this opportunity to learn from someone who has this self-discovered knowledge and who really wants to share it with you.
We will learn all aspects of making a pear of jeans, focusing on construction techniques. We will discuss all the pieces, how they go together, what the tricky parts are and what can be done to make the tricky parts not so tricky. We will spend time talking about using your machine on heavy fabrics, keeping the machine moving without it getting stuck, how to recover when something goes wrong and lots of other tips and tricks.
All levels are encouraged to take the class, even beginning sewers. Beginners will walk away from this project with a crash course on sewing in general. More advanced users will learn the secret tricks that make can this particular project easy.
The workshop will take place over two days, 3 hours sessions each day, with an additional hour of open studio time for additional help. Each session will include group presentation and plenty of one-on-one instruction, guidance and help.
This might be your first pair of jeans. Don’t expect them to be perfect. That’s not necessarily the goal. If you complete them you will have learned a set of skills that will help you in all of your future projects.
Please bring the following materials:
3 yards heavy denim or any material you wish to make pants out of
200 yards jean thread (cotton thread is great)
5 dungaree buttons (also called jeans buttons) OR instead a zipper
1/2 yard heavy white cotton fabric (for the pockets)
Please bring the following tools if you have them:
A sharp pair of scissors
Straight pins
Seam ripper (hey, everybody makes mistakes!)
Feel free to bring your own sewing machine or use ours!
*There is a sliding pay scale for this workshop as you are purchasing your own materials. Please consider what you can afford and the value of the workshop.
